Shirley La Delle Stark was born in Willow, Ok, on November 25, 1937 to Odell and Arline Smith. She attended Brinkman School where she played on the basketball team. She also gave a salutary speech for her 8th grade graduating class in 1951. Shirley married John G Stark in 1953 and moved to Dallas, TX. Shortly after that they moved to Garland, TX where they raised four children. In 1993, she moved back to Mangum to be near her parents due to her father’s illness. She enjoyed the small-town life reconnecting with friends and family. Shirley was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, serving on various committees and served as treasurer. Other positions that she held in Mangum include receptionist for a tax accountant and volunteer for several organizations-the Museum, Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center, and City elections. The Red Hatter’s Society was one of her favorite social activities. She said it was a great time to spend with friends and have dinner at different restaurants in the area. One of the places they really liked was the Evening Edition for the Halloween meeting. Bonnie, the owner, would fix a special Halloween themed dinner. Shirley was also a member of the local breast cancer support group in honor of her mother Arline Smith who survived breast cancer at the age of 88. Living in Mangum during this time was the happiest time of her life. For years she had dealt with many health issues and they began to take their toll. In 2021 she moved back to Texas where she lived with her daughter, Becky and son-in-law Ray until her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents Odell and Arline Smith and former husband John G Stark. Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Sheryl Diane Coleman and husband, Dave of Greenville, TX, Becky Green and husband Ray of Hideaway, TX, Katy Young of College Station, TX and one son, Darryl Stark and wife Carol of Brownsboro, TX; five grandchildren, Austin Coleman and wife Evan, Angela Hill and husband Ryan, Brandon Green and wife Nikki, Wendi Stark Warren and husband David, and Katelyn Young; 11 great grandchildren, Luke, Riley and Levi Hill, Zane, Zoey and Zeth Coleman, Tyler and Zachary Green and Brody, Tessa and Simon Welker. As a devout Christian, she loved her Lord and made sure that church was a priority for her family. Shirley was a wonderful mother, daughter, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church in Mangum, OK and The Hospice of East Texas in Tyler TX.
