Obituary for Simon M. Guzman
GUZMAN
Simon M. Guzman, age 68, of Hollis, passed away Tuesday morning, February 21, 2012, in Lubbock, Texas.
Mr. Guzman was born in Anson, Texas on October 28, 1943, to Anacleto and Bonifacia (Martinez) Guzman. As a small child, Simon moved, with his family, to Plainview, Texas. On April 6, 1963, he married the love of his life, Mary Benavides, in Clovis, New Mexico and they established their home in Plainview. Moving to Lubbock for one year in 1970, they moved to Hollis in 1971, where he lived until his death. For forty years, Simon worked for Joe, Paul, Kelly and Scott Horton. For the last thirty-two years, Simon and Mary have been foster parents to many children. In his spare time, Simon enjoyed fishing and watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys.
Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, as an infant and one sister Estella Guzman, he is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home, in Hollis; three children, Simon Guzman, Jr. and wife Mary of Memphis, Tennessee, Stella Reyes of Memphis, Tennessee and Joe Guzman of Hollis; seven grandchildren, Jesse Guzman, Kayla Dearman, Raina Reyes, Marissa Reyes, Nicholas Guerra, Ashly Pumroy, and Tawnya Pippin; four great grandchildren, Adriana Reyes, Nakole Guerra, Brayden Pumroy and Zoeh Pumroy; three sisters Manuela Gonzales and husband Joe of Plainview, Rosa Cardenas and husband Tony of Lubbock and Brenda Alvarado and husband Martin of Hollis; two brothers, Nick Guzman of Lubbock and Gabriel Gallardo and wife Florinda of Dallas along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Simon Guzman will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Hollis First Baptist Church with Freddie Reyes officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
