Fern Bates Taylor, 93, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the Plantation Village Nursing Center in Altus. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2007, at the Highland Park Baptist Church in Duncan with Rev. Winston ?Curtis officiating. Interment will follow at the Hobart Rose Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
Fern was born on the family farm south of Hobart on February 1, 1914 to John Ayers Bates and Maude Elizabeth Cooper Bates. She graduated from Hobart High School and worked in the dry cleaning business. She married Raymond W. Taylor and moved to Duncan where they owned and operated the Sunshine Cleaners. he preceded her in death and Fern continued to operate the business until her retirement at almost eighty years of age.
Fern is survived by her niece, Pam Roudebush and her husband Robert of Altus, and a nephew, John Elkins and his wife Donna of Mangum. She is also survived by a great-nephew, Scott Roudebush and his wife Michelle, two great-nieces, Kelley Roudebush Duncan and her husband Jeff, Kimberly Roudebush Picket and her husband Gregg, eight great-great nieces and nephews, Gant, Jake, Nick and Todd Duncan, Carson, Mason, and Hailey Pickett, Reagin Roudebush and many other relatives and friends.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, her parents, John and Maude Bates of Hobart, two sisters, Tressie Hein of Altus, Thelma Elkins of Mangum, and one infant brother, Willard Bates.
Fern Taylor will lie in state on Monday, July 23, 2007, from 10 a.m. until service time at the Highland Park Baptist Church at 1002 S. 10th Street in Duncan.
