Obituary for Steve R. Martinez
Steve R. Martinez, 66, of Hollis, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at his home.
Steve was born on August 28, 1959, in San Antonio, Texas to Rudolfo and Mary Lou (Ramirez) Martinez. He grew up in San Antonio and later the family moved to Hollis Oklahoma which became his permanent home. While in Hollis Steve began working at Lancers Mobile Home in Childress Texas, where he met the love of his life Dora Contreras Martinez. Steve married Dora in 1978, and they spent the next 47 years together. This union truly honored the vows they made "In sickness and in Health." Steve had many jobs, however most of his time was working for Testerman Farms as a truck driver for 15 years. Steve was a joyful mischievous man who enjoyed various activities such as fishing, dancing, and bingo, to name a few. If you knew Steve, you also knew that he was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Steve never met a stranger. He had a way of making everyone smile and laugh. He loved his daughters dearly, but his true heart and joy were his grandkids. Wherever he was he was talking to someone about his grandkids. He was very kind and loving but he was also very loud, ornery, and especially a jokester. "He may have been a pain at times, but he was Our Pain!" These last years, Steve enjoyed the company of his Tio Jose Mingura. Steve would always prepare a pot of coffee to greet Jose on his way back home from his daily morning bike rides. They spent a lot of quality time together, and Steve came to love Jose deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Galazia; a great grandson, Elian Jesus; and three brothers, Tony, Rudy, and David.
Survivors include his wife, Dora, of the home; a daughter, Melissa Chavez and husband, Saul, and their children, Maria (Tyler), Mylea (Enndy), Rosalio, and Isadora; a daughter, Jennifer Niehaus and husband, Dean, and their children, Voss, Sierra, Dallas (Noel), and Trae (Audrey); four great greatgrandchildren, Rose, Marilyn, Serenity, and Liliana; five brothers, Salvador, Larry, Javier, Noel, and Augie Martinez; a sister, Ruby Perez; and numerous other, aunts, uncles, cousins, other family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 5:00 PM Friday, January 2, 2026, at the funeral home. A rosary will immediately follow at 5:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Balaswamy Konka and Deacon Ruben Martinez, Jr. officiating. Services and cremation are under the care of the Harmon County Funeral Home.
