Obituary for Susanne Marie Rogers
Susanne Marie "Sue" Rogers, 67, Altus, died Saturday at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Chaplain Erin Martinez, Jackson County Memorial Hospital hospice, will officiate. Burial will be at Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims.
Mrs. Rogers was born Sept. 29, 1943 at Denver, Colo., to Archie and Lulu Evelyn (Leonard) Allen. In 1961, she graduated from high school in Denver. She had been active in high school swimming and diving events and played the clarinet in the marching band.
She married William Leon Rogers, a member of the U.S. Air Force, on Oct. 25, 1962. During his active duty years, they were assigned to McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., Beale AFB, Calif., Edwards AFB, Calif., Lowery AFB, Colo., Altus AFB, and George AFB, Calif. In addition, Tech.Sgt. Rogers served at a number of locations overseas during the Vietnam War.
In 1979, Sergeant Rogers died of injuries suffered in a hunting accident at George AFB. Mrs. Rogers and her two children moved back to Altus where she lived the rest of her life.
She attended Western Oklahoma State College during several semesters, studying art courses such as painting, pottery making and piano, among several others. She had an extremely deep interest in genealogy.
Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Her survivors include a daughter, Carol Rogers Nebling, Avondale, Ariz., a son, Darrel Wayne Rogers, Altus; three grandchildren, Christopher Nebling and Morgan Rogers, both of Altus, Brett Nebling, Rogers, Ark.; a brother, Charles Allen and wife Mary, Denver; a sister, Sherrellene Cahill and her husband, Bill, Greeley, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Martin, Sapulpa, and her sons, Steven Martin and Jackson Rudd, and Mary Wittner, her husband Sam of Lakewood, Colo., and their children, Michelle Bush and Sam Wittner; two brothers-in-law, Joseph W. Rogers and his wife Geraldine of Long Beach, Calif., and John Rogers and his wife Gail, Wright City, Mo., and their children, Rick Leach and Patricia Rowley.
