Teresa Mae Thacker, age 52, of Altus, passed away early Monday morning, March 10, 2014, at her residence, in Altus.
Mrs. Thacker was born in White Sands, New Mexico on November 6, 1961, to Forrest Lee and Joyce Claudine (Peden) Janis. Due to her father"s position with the United States Army, Teresa lived in many places the first several years of her life. Those locations included White Sands, New Mexico, Fletcher, Oklahoma, Germany, Ft. Hood, Texas, Ft. Sill, Headrick, Snyder and Cooperton, Oklahoma. A 1978 graduate of Gotebo High School, Teresa attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University. On August 18, 1985, she married the love of her life, Leander Thacker, and they spent the next twenty-eight wonderful years together before her untimely death. In 1995, Teresa graduated from nursing school at Western Oklahoma State College and worked at several locations before retiring in 2006, due to her declining health. In her spare time, Teresa first loved being a mom, while also enjoying playing board games, especially, Hand and Foot, fishing, riding horses, collecting coins and spending time with her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her father, Forrest Lee Janis, and one brother, Forrest Lee "Butch" Janis, Jr.; she is survived by her husband, Leander Thacker, of the home; her mother, Joyce Ward and husband Gerald of Purcell, Oklahoma; three children, Cory Thacker and wife Alea of Denver, Colorado, Jami Thacker and fianc" Jeffrey Sublett of Norman, Oklahoma and Richard Fields of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Jani Young and husband Scott of Altus, Judy Lance and husband Steve of Altus and Tamra Phelan and husband John of Mt. Park; three brothers, Paul Janis and wife Glenna of Altus, Dwayne Janis and wife Sheri of Altus and Jesse Janis of Altus; two special nieces and a nephew, Addy Smith, Ally Smith and Taylor Smith along with many other relatives and friends.
In keeping with Teresa"s wishes, a memorial service, celebrating her life, will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home with Ken Hamilton, Cory Thacker and Jami Thacker officiating.
