Thomas S. Garrison




Thomas S. Garrison, 78, of Altus, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton.

Tom was born November 27, 1927, in Catoosa, Oklahoma, to Jacob F. Garrison and Minerva (Leach) Garrison. He started school in Catoosa and then attended several schools in Oklahoma while growing up due to his father workig for the railroad. He later joined the United States Army and served as a payroll clerk during World War II.

Tom married Gaynell "Gay" Adams April 5, 1952, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He went to work for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 22 years before going to the work for the Jackson County Sheriff's Office as a jailer while Joe Boaldin was County Sheriff.

Tom enjoyed working in his workshop behind his home and was well-known in Altus as a "Jack of all Trades". His special hobbies were woodworking and using his skills as a machinist. In 1983, he and hi wife were dealt a tragedy by experiencing a fire in their home. He worked endless hours to rebuild their home and made it an even a better place to call home. He loved his animals, especially his Chihuahua, "Tiki". He enjoyed spending countless hours with his family and friends, yet he was a private man. He was very big-hearted and generous with his skills to help others.

Tom was a member of the NRA and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a member of the Thomas Street Church of Christ.
