Tom J. Sheppard
Tom J. Sheppard, 82, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 1995, in the Jackson County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Tom was born February 2, 1913, in Lawton, Oklahoma, the son of Thomas James and Margaret Watkins Sheppard. The family moved to the farm atWalters when Tom was two years old. He graduated from Walters High School and continued his education at Cameron College.
On November 26, 1933, Tom and Louise Bible were united in marriage at Lawton, Oklahoma. They remained in Southwest Oklahoma all their lives. Tom was a very industrious individual. As well as farming and ranching, he was employeed as a pumper for Haliburton. Along with his son-in-law, he owned and operated Sheppard Richeson Appliance Store in Altus. In the more recent years, he was the manager of Arrow Van Lines in Lawton. After his retirement, he continued to help the Van Lines on a part-time basis. when Tom had spare time, he loved to work in his yard. As busy as he was, Tom always found time for his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and Roger Sheppard.
He is survived by Louise B. Sheppard, his wife of 61 years; two sons and a daughter-in-law, T.J. and Barbara Sheppard of Gallup, New Mexico, and Charles Sheppard of Manitou Springs, Colorado; one daughter and son-in-law Janet and Leon Richeson of Altus; two sisters, Louise Hill and Ellen Victoria Jones, both of Edmond, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Ruth Sheppard of Wichita Kansas; Harold and Marlene Bible of Ladue, Missouri; B.A. and Mary Mason of Ft. Smith Arkansas; and Olene Bible of Lawton, Oklahoma.
