Tommy Sadler, age 69 of Friendship, Oklahoma and formerly of Altus, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Tommy was born in Oklahoma City on June 19, 1950 to his parents Earnest and Laura (Brandt) Sadler. He grew up in Oklahoma City, Harrah, and Newalla until the family moved to southwest Oklahoma where Tommy started school in Friendship and later moved Altus, graduating from Altus High School Class of 1969. Tommy became a Christian at Falls Creek in 1961 at the age of 11 and was baptized at the Friendship Baptist Church, where he currently attended.
Tommy served his country in the United States Army. He was drafted in 1970 and deployed to Vietnam from 1970 – 1971. He received an honorable discharge among numerous other awards for his service.
After returning home, Tommy met and married the love of his life Denice Osborne on June 4, 1973 in Altus. They have enjoyed over 46 years of marriage. As a young family they lived in Altus and later Friendship.
Tommy served his community starting with the City of Altus and later transferring to Altus Fire Department, where he served for 37 years, retiring as Captain in 2012. He was actively involved with the Firefighter Combat Challenge for many years.
Tommy’s other much loved career was farming, which he began while in junior high with David Schultz, working together until 2016. After they retired, he teamed up with Cody Beckner, farming with him for the last four years.
Tommy enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson, traveling and taking yearly trips with his motorcycle buddies. He always stayed physically active with biking, running, and racing duathlons. Most of all Tommy loved and treasured his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earnest and Laura Sadler; and his brother-in-law, Larry Osborne. Tommy is survived by his wife Denice Sadler of the home; his son, Randy and wife Amanda; his daughter Jodi; three sisters, Clara Cromer and husband Mike; Ruth Ann Hoover and husband Marlin; and Sara Kubina and husband Guy; his two grandchildren, OuidaJhoRae Sadler and awaiting MeliaAnn Brooke Sadler; numerous other family members including: Adam Harris and wife Mary; Amanda Hardin and husband Chuck; Haley Hoover; Grant Hoover and wife Faith; Maggie Gray and husband Brandon; Jonathan Kubina; Sam Kubina; Rachel Kubina; Amy Ferris and husband Bryant; Chad Osborne and wife Jessica; and Carolyn Osborne; as well as many friends.
Memorial donations may be made in Tommy’s memory to the Francis Cemetery Fund at Frazer Bank, the Altus Firefighter Combat Challenge Team Fund at City of Altus or the Teresa’s Hicks Memorial Reading Fund at Frazer Bank.
A visitation was held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday evening, August 23, 2019 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel in Altus with interment following at Altus City Cemetery.
