Tony's journey began June 22, 1951, born in Platteville, CO. Tony is the first born of four children and a long-time resident of Altus, having attended Wilson Elementary, Central Jr High School and Altus High School. Tony was married to the love of his life, Jesusa (Susie) Barrera Ybarra, and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Tony and Susie surprised everyone when they decided to elope at a Valentine's day party in 1971; tying the knot on February 19, 1971. Their union resulted in the blessings of two children, Rosa Linda Ybarra Gallardo and Michael Ybarra, with the additional blessings of 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Tony's love of music was great! Throughout most of his life, Tony was actively involved in different bands with family and friends. He even recorded an 8-track in 1982 with the band 'Los Primos'. His musical talent was seen in his ability to play a variety of instruments; primarily guitar, drums, and accordion, and also vocals. Tony also opened the first Tejano Club in Altus. He loved dancing, playing pool, was an avid fan of football and boxing, watching westerns, and greatly enjoyed camping with family and friends whenever they could fit it in. Tony was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member; attended Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Altus and later attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Mangum, OK.
Tony's pride and joy was family and friends. Tony also very much cared for others as evidenced in having worked in providing general maintenance at Grace Living Center and English Village Manor. Tony was no stranger to hard work; also having worked a variety of construction-related positions throughout his life until health began to take a toll, slowing him down. Tony was pretty much a 'jack of all trades'.
Tony became ill and endured dialysis for approximately 10 yrs. Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Tony S. Ybarra, Sr.; along with a younger brother, Ricky Ybarra; sister-in-law, Mollie; and brother-in-law, Johnny Barrera.
Tony is survived by his wife, Susie; daughter, Linda and husband, Shaune; son, Michael and wife, Belinda. Nine grandchildren: Devon Conway and fiance' Mercades; Felicia and husband Brock Barker; Samantha Ybarra, Lauren Vermea, Michael Betts, Monica Ybarra and fiance' Juan; Michael Ybarra, Jr.; Shauna Gallardo and Kylie Erward. Honorary grandchildren: Devonnian Hallcy and Gisselle Rodriguez. Ten great grandchildren: Harmoni Smith, Chelsea Conway Jones, Alizay Saldivar, Nicholas Herrera, Melody & Kirsten Ethridge, Anthony Conway, Mateo & Leo Betts and Kaylee Ryan Conway.
