Velma Louise (Ince) Ritter age 82 longtime resident of Mangum Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Integris Hospital.
Velma was born on July 25, 1942, to her parents, Charles and Mattie Ince in Olustee, Oklahoma. She married Melvis Ritter in Wellington, Texas after a short engagement. The young couple made their home in Texas before moving to Everett, Washington. They spent the next 14 years raising their children in Washington until they returned home to Oklahoma.
After moving to Oklahoma in 1980, Velma began working as the secretary of the first Baptist Church. She remained at the church for 21 years. Then she held various other jobs including janitor of the church. She loved her church, and always took pride and taking care of it. Velma also volunteered with the disaster relief program with the Southern Baptist Association.
Velma enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, and baking. She loved taking care of her family. She will always be remembered for her famous homemade rolls that she cooked for funerals and holiday meals.
Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Clarence Melvis Ritter, parents Charles and Mattie Ince, brother William Ince, sister Marge Powell and brother Charles Ince.
Velma is survived by sister Zolla Marshall Everett, Washington, Daughter Teresa Pena and husband Freddy of Sinton, Tx, Son Roy Ritter of Headrick, Ok and Daughter Cynthia Clark and husband Tom of Mangum. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren as well as numerous family members and friends.
