Obituary for Vera Willis
WILLIS
Vera Lee Willis, age 82, of Mangum, passed away late Monday evening, March 18, 2013, at English Village Nursing Home, in Altus.
Mrs. Willis was born in Oklahoma City on September 12, 1930, to Palmer Wilson and Retha (Carter) Kooken. Raised by her grandparents, on the farm they homesteaded, Vera attended and graduated from Mt. View High School. On April 15, 1947, she married Clifford Willis and they established their first home in Lone Wolf. With Clifford working in the oil fields, they lived in several locations including thirty years in Ontario, California and later in Golden, Colorado where Clifford died in 1993. In 1994, Vera moved to Mangum where she lived until her health began to decline in 2012. A long-time, faithful, member of the Colorado Street Church of Christ, Vera enjoyed her cats, reading, playing Yahtzee, writing letters, sending cards to her family and friends for every occasion and spending time with her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three grandchildren, Sammy Brown, Shan Darden and Trina Oliverez, she is survived by one daughter, Janice Brown and husband Sam of Mangum; four grandchildren, Clifford Brown and wife Cleta, William Brown and wife Marie, Penny Rosalez and husband Paul and Vera McClellan and husband Melvin; one brother, Charles Kooken and wife Dorothy of Prescott, Arizona along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Vera Willis will be at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Brother James Reed and Sam Brown officiating. Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
