Obituary for Verna Martha Chestnut
Verna Martha Chestnut, age 88, of Blair, Oklahoma, died at the Mangum City Hospital on Wednesday, June 3rd, 1992.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday at the Blair First United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Bill Mease. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Billings Union Cemetery at Billings, OK. Born November 15, 1903 in Greenwood, NE. She was the daughter of William and Anna Knaup. She married Robert Chestnut, August 24, 1932 at Murdock, NE. Verna and Robert (Bob) started their first home SE of Billings. She lived there until 1975 at which time she moved into Billings and lived there until 1980. She moved to Warren in 1980 to be near her daughter and family. She was a great quilter, needle crafter, and breadmaker. She was an active member of the Billings United Methodist Church where she helped the Church Ladies serve the Rotary Club for over 25 years. She was Sunday School Secretary over 20 years. She had the Christmas Luncheon for the United Methodist Women in her home for over 25 years and after moving to Warren in 1980, she had the Warren Extension Club Christmas Luncheon each year.
Survivors include: one daughter, Iverna Butchee of Blair, OK; one brother, Henry Knaup of Lincoln, NE; two sisters: Opal Herr of Humboldt, NE and Anna Louise Root, Elmwood, NE; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert Chestnut (1957); sons, Donald R. Chestnut (1984), Lyle V. Chestnut (1936); sister, Elsie Englert; brother, Ruben Knaup.
