Violet Hensley Abernathy, 85, died Saturday in Altus. Services were at 2:00pm today at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with the Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Interment was in the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Mrs. Abernathy was born October 3, 1907 at Doans Crossing. She married Clarence H. Abernathy on August 6, 1927 in Altus. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1986.
She was a lifelong resident of Altus and Jackson County. She was a long time and active member of the First Baptist Church and was a member of the Dar, Erolethian Club, and an active member of her Sunday school Class.
Survivors inclule one son and daughter-in-law, earl and Sweet Pea Abernathy, Altus; one sister, Eris June Holdridge, Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Don Earl Abernathy, Marita Lane and Tommy Abernathy; and seven great-grandchildren, Ashley and Braddock Abernathy, Lance, Grant and Alex Lane, and Lindsey and Lori Abernathy.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Nova Crow and Nina Henry.
