Marie Melton, age 89, of Altus, passed away Monday, May 21, 2007, at English Village Manor in Altus. Marie was born on June 16, 1915, to Gordon and Minnie (Honea) Berry in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
Clyde an Marie Melton resided at Lake Humphrey's near Duncan,
Oklahoma before moving to Altus. They were instrumental in establishing the Lakeside Baptist Church and opened their home to the first church services. The also contributed much of their time and efforts to help build the church when they weren't fishing. When they moved to Altus they served at the First Baptist Church and were active in the Keenagers, Sunday School and the Altus Senior Citizens. Special thanks to the staff at Tamarack Retirement Center and the EnglishVillage Nursing Home.
Marie is survived by Jim and Judy Watkins of Austin, Texas; Jim and Mary Laird of Azle, Texas; Jack and Janet Diltz of Altus, Oklahoma; Van Melton of Altus, Oklahoma; and Bruce and Nelda Melton of Enid, Oklahoma; grandchildren; Jay and Jennifer Benway of Altus, Oklahoma; Jeff Diltz of Nashville, Tennessee; Pete and Amanda Watkins of Plano, Texas; Goodin of Raleigh, North Carolina; Carie and Geoff Wood, of Azle, Texas;
Jayme Laird of Ft. Worth, Texas; Bill and Michele Lang of Lubbock, Texas; Julie Melton of Long Beach, California; Darrell and Joy Venham of Laguna, California; Kevin and Jennifer Strop of Wnid Oklahoma; Craig and Mandy Bruyn of Enid, Oklahoma; Raffi and Judy Grace Manissian of Plano,
Texas; and Monica Melton of Plano, Texas; great-grandchildren Devin Watkins of Raleigh, North Carolina; Jayden and Jordan Benway of Altus, Oklahoma; Liam Watkins of Plano, Texas; and Pake and Lindy Lang og Lubbock, Texas.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Melton, step-son Monte Melton and grandson Mic Watkins.
Graveside services for Marie Melton will be 3 pm. Thursday, May 24, 2007, at Restland Cemetery with Dr. Jeff More officiating in Altus under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
