Wanda Jean Hicks, a resident of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away on March 13, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of ninety.
On October 24, 1933, in Bixby, Oklahoma, Clarence Holloway and Lula Adeline (Mann) Holloway rejoiced at the birth of their daughter, Wanda Jean Holloway. She was raised and educated in Oklahoma and New Mexico. From an early age, Wanda's faith played a big role in the strong, God-fearing woman she would become.
In 1952, Wanda was introduced to a young cowboy by the name of Glen (Red) Hicks. Sparks flew and soon the two were deeply in love. Glen sold his horse, saddle, and ropes to buy Wanda the perfect ring and prayed that they would spend the rest of their lives together. On February 18, 1953, in Roswell, New Mexico, she became Mrs. Glen Hicks. Shortly after, the Hicks family relocated to California. Wanda and Glen were blessed with four children, Mark, Vickie, Patricia, and Sonya. Wanda served as a homemaker and full-time mother, making sure the daily needs of her husband, house, and children were met with love and care.
In her spare time, Wanda enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, and doting on her grandchildren.
In 1976, the family moved to Wanda's home state of Oklahoma. Wanda was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation and loved learning about her heritage. She was baptized at the West Alameda Church of Christ in Roswell, New Mexico. She leaves behind a legacy of enduring love, absolute faith, and family devotion; She has earned her eternal rest, having gave her very best to those she loved most. Wanda's big heart and true Christian kindness will be missed by all who knew her.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Holloway and Lula Adeline (Mann) Holloway; brother, Patrick Holloway; sisters, Pauline Holloway, Mary Louise Holloway; great-granddaughter, Mykel Vanek; and her beloved husband Glen (Red) Hicks.
