Wanda (Hester) Stayton, age 85, of Altus, passed away Tuesday evening, September 16, 2014, at English Village Manor, in Altus.
Wanda was born in Crowell, Texas on August 25, 1929 to Kelly Perry and Lizzie (Wheeler) Hester. Wanda graduated from Blair High School in 1947 and before graduation she married the love of her life, Billy Ray Stayton on November 3, 1946 in Vernon, Texas and they were united marriage for well over 65 years. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years but her most important job was raising six children who she loved very much. The family lived in Southwest Oklahoma and moved to Texas and Arkansas and after the kids were grown Billy and Wanda moved back to Altus where they both resided since 1973. Wanda loved to sewing and spending time with her family and she will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband Billy Ray on June 24, 2014; two sons, Richard and John Stayton; two grandsons, Christopher Bennett and Patrick Brashear; Wanda is survived by two sons, James Ray Stayton and his wife Penny of Texarkana, Arkansas; Ronald Stayton and his wife Debra of Waxahachie, Texas; two daughters, Donna Mason and her husband Huey of Springhill, Louisiana; Awilda Stickney and her husband Leslie of Altus; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family of Wanda Stayton will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, September 19, 2014 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Graveside Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Blair Cemetery in Blair, Oklahoma with Pastor Doug Altom officiating.
