Wayne Benedict Braun age 83, of Granite, passed away early Friday morning, April 29, 2016, at his residence, in Granite.
Mr. Braun was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 20, 1932, to John A. and Marie (Beyers) Braun. After leaving his Catholic High School, Wayne was drafted into the United States Army on December 8, 1952, where he spent the next two years. After separating from the U.S. Army, Wayne joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served the next twenty-four years, retiring as a Technical Sergeant in 1976. During these years, he served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Not one to be setting around, Wayne began working for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, working his way through the ranks, retiring as a Captain at the Oklahoma State Reformatory, in Granite, after twenty years. Shortly thereafter he began working for Wal-Mart, where he continued for the next three years. On October 14, 1958, he married Maxine Jo Ann Trettin, in Waverly, Iowa and she preceded him in death on February 27, 1993. After Maxine"s death, Wayne married Lavon (Heflin) Bell, on July 9, 1994, in Vernon, Texas. Wayne was a hard worker all of his life and a member of the Granite American Legion Post #177, but in his spare time he enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, working in his yard and building "stuff" with his good friend, Velton Sirmons.
Preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and one grandson, Radley James Motes, he is survived by his wife, Lavon, of the home; seven children, Deborah Belcher and husband Carl, Meri Drone and David Drone, John Braun and wife Cindy, Bill Braun and wife Linda, Kevin Braun and wife Tara, Todd Bell and wife Tina and Jeffrey Bell; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren along with many other relatives and a host of friends from over the years.
The family would like to say a special thinks to John Ferguson and Sharron Earls for their help during these last few difficult months.
