Willard Malcom "Mac" Bex, age 83, of Mangum, passed away early Monday morning, November 16, 2009, at Grace Living Center, in Mangum.
Mac was born on April 4, 1926, in Olustee, Oklahoma to Bill and Murl (Jenkins) Bex. The family later moved to White Flat, in Greer County, and he graduated from Reed High School in 1944. Shortly after graduation, he spent a tour of duty, serving his country with the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, he returned to Mangum, where he made his home until his death. On January 1, 1955, he married Doris Corene Sullivan in Ratton, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death, on July 14, 1992. Playing dominoes, watching baseball and raising Quarter Horses were his favorite pastimes. After his retirement from Armco Steel, he built the Cactus Club, west of Mangum and operated it for the next ten years.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Corene; one brother, Billy Bex and one daughter, Brenda Floyd, he is survived by two daughters, Carol Hardin and husband Glenn of Granite and Bridget Woodress and husband Bray of Mangum; one brother, Jimmy Bex and wife Nell of Texas; nine grandchildren, Staci Howell and husband John of Noble, Kimberly Jennings and husband Terry of Granite, John Hardin and wife Ashley of Woodward, Susan Sanchez and husband Juan Jr. of Mangum, Chris Hardin and wife Jessica of Burns Flat, Dustin Hardin and wife Daniela of Elk City, Anna Hardin of Elk City, Brooke Stover of Mangum and Brynne Woodress of Mangum; twelve great grandchildren, Justine Corene Wilson, Kelsey Wilson, Johnathan Wilson, Jordan Howell, Kade Jennings, Ashtyn Macara Jennings, Airyc Mott, Cory Mott, C.J. Hardin, Christian Chervenka, Ethan Chervenka and Nathan Chervenka and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mac Bex will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at the First Methodist Church, in Granite. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Mangum.
