Obituary for Willard R. Beavers
Willard Ray Beavers, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Wednesday, April 4, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-WNJ in Sherman, Texas at the age of 92. Services will be held Monday, April 9 at 2:00 p. m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, Altus with Rev. John Kinsey officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Cemetery in Blair with Zachary Beavers, Tyler Beavers, Cody Beavers, Aaron Smith, Mike Johnson and Ted Moore serving as pallbearers. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Mr. Beavers was born on November 28, 1919 in Blair, Oklahoma to Harvey and Virgie Beavers. He was preceded in death by his parents, former wife, Victory Beavers and infant twins.
He attended Blair High School, Southwestern State Teachers College and graduated Oklahoma University where he obtained a B. S. in Education and a Masters Degree in Public School Adminisrtration. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army and Honorably Discharged in 1942. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge and was a Mason.
Ray is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Beavers of the home, sons, Roger Beavers and wife, Doranne, of Norman, Ronnie Beavers of Williston, North Dakota and step-daughter, Marilynn Mitchell of Durant, grandchildren, Zachary Beavers and wife, Mira, Cody Beavers of Norman, Tyler Beavers of Denver, Colorado, Micah Beavers and wife, Shara and children, Preslie and Tyler of Altus, Terri and husband Wayne Bristow of Oklahoma City, step-granddaughter, Pamela Smith and husband, Aaron and children, Weston Smith and Wyatt Smith of Era, Texas, cousins Nita Walker and husband, Nolan, Betty Tabb, Patsy Cox and husband Forrest, Altus and Robert McLeod and wife Joyce, Tehachapi, California. Special mention is made to his best friend and brother-in-law, Mike Johnson, Durant.
Mr. Beavers had a career in the education field and served as a respected superintendent, principal and teacher throughout Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. He and his wife were travelers and toured the United States and Canada. Throughout their travels, their most enjoyable was their trip to Alaska in their motor home and tour down the East coast. He will be long remembered for his relationship with his dog and trusted companion, Fritz. He had an amazing memory and was an avid reader.
