Obituary for William 'Bill" Philip Gay
William Philip "Bill" Gay passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in Altus, Oklahoma.
Bill was born December 21, 1939, at Berrien County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Hubert Windal and Vida Mae(Robinson) Gay. He moved to Altus in 1959 from Nashville, Georgia.
On May 27, 1961, Bill and Jane Garrison were united in marriage in Altus, Oklahoma. Bill was a long time member of the Elmer United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Jaycees, Masonic Lodge, and an active volunteer of the Miss Altus Pageant. Bill worked at the First National bank in Altus for 30 years before his retirement. He also served in the United States Air Force from which he was Honorably discharged.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Cara Gay; and first cousins Louis Hamilton, Sallie Robinson, Billy Dickerson and Clifford Robinson.
He is lovingly survived by Jane Ellen Gay, his wife of 41 years; one daughter, Stephanie Gay of Altus, Oklahoma; two brothers Windal H. Gay of Bartow, Georgia and Joseph M. Gay and his wife, Cassie, of Brooklet, Georgia; one sister, Sue Silva and her husband, Charlie, of Savannah, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Phillip W. Garrison and his wife, Margie, of Altus, Oklahoma; one aunt, Bessie Outlaw of Highland City, Florida; and by four grandchildren, Tara Paugh, Tyler Owens, Lyssa Owens, and Katie Gay. Also surviving are cousins; Fayne Outlaw, Abbey Pruitt, Joan Mann, Wayne Hamilton, Carlton Hamilton, Freddie Hamilton, Doris Conner, James Robinson, Alice Robinson, Lola Purvis, Bessie Lee Robinson, Shirley Weathers, John Robinson, Peggy Fish, Frances Robinson, Melvin Robinson, Marvin Robinson, Norman Robinson, Hilton Robinson, Alene Robinson, Jean McBride, Emory Robinson, Harold Robinson, and Kenneth Robinson.
