Obituary for William C. Barnes
William C. "Chief" Barnes, age 83, 800 E. Liveoak, Altus, died Tuesday, February 8th, 1977 in the Jackson County Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services have been set for 3:30 P.M., Thursday, Tims Chapel of Memories, with the Reverend Vernon Lawrence officiating. Burial will be in the Altus City Cemetery under direction of Tims Funeral Home.
Born January 16th, 1894 in Tennessee, he came to Oklahoma in 1914 and has been a resident of Jackson County until the time of his death. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include: three sons, Leon Barnes of Friendship, Virgil Barnes of Long Beach, CA and L. B. Barnes of Prineville, OR; one daughter, Bonnie Lu Johnson of Altus; two sisters, Myrtle Elder and Ida Lee Lynn, both of Altus; two brothers, Jess Barnes of Tipton and Vernon Barnes of Vinita, OK; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Etta in 1943 and a son, Elmer.
