Obituary for William DeTaranto Jr.
William DeTaranto Jr.,75, an Altus resident, passed away peacefully at his home on June 13, 2022.

Bill was born on September 16, 1946, in Whittier, California to his parents, William DeTaranto Sr. and Teresa DeTaranto (Gonzales). He graduated from Whittier High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Infantry and fought the Korean War from 1965-to 1967.

Bill married Donna Breeze, on April 1, 1993, and their blessed union spanned 29 years. He moved to Decatur, Illinois in 1998 and finally settled in Altus, Oklahoma in 2016. Bill worked as a roofer for several different companies in California until an injury-shortened his career in 2020, he began working for Walmart. Working at the Altus Walmart was a perfect match for Bill because he loved to socialize with co-workers and customers alike. His warm and friendly personality made him a joy to be around.

On a personal level, William was a kind and generous person who never met a stranger. His charisma and open heart allowed him to effortlessly make friends wherever he went. His natural sense of self and cool demeanor attracted others and made people want to get to know him.

When he wasn't busy making friends. William enjoyed going to the beach. He was an avid surfer and was also extremely passionate about cars. One of his favorites was a woody wagon that he placed his surfboard on and drove to the beach. Bill also enjoyed spending time at the gym where he would do more socializing than weightlifting.

William leaves behind a legacy of honesty, hard work, love for his family, friends, and true concern for others. He will forever be remembered in the hearts of all who knew him.

William was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Tonya DeTaranto Pion; and his two brothers: Michael DeTaranto and Dennis DeTaranto.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Breeze, of the home; his daughter, Debbie Valerio (Tony) of Altus, Ok; three sons: Billy DeTaranto (Sandra) of Nevada; Daniel Breeze (Mariah) of Altus; and Darry Breeze (Nancy) of Nevada; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters: Ann Height of Oregon and Helen McFarland (Tim) of Arizona; one brother: Leonard DeTaranto of California; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and neighbors.


Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2022, at Grace Methodist Church, Altus, Oklahoma.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
