Obituary for William Joseph Mantzke
Bill Mantzke, age 78, a longtime resident of Headrick, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at his home in Headrick.
Bill was born in Cashton, Wisconsin on February 6, 1941 to his parents Gustave and Delia (Leis) Mantzke. He was raised in Wisconsin until he was sixteen and the family moved to Texas. When Bill was eighteen he enlisted into the United States Army and served his country for three years and received an honorable discharge. After his service in the Army Bill moved to Altus, Oklahoma where his parents were living. During this time Bill met Sue Easly of Headrick, Oklahoma and they married April 10, 1964 at the Catholic Church in Altus and they have enjoyed well over 54 years of marriage together. In his early Altus years Bill worked as a mechanic for several shops and ran a gas station/mechanic shop with Gene Graham and also operated his own mechanic shop in Headrick. In later years Bill operated his gunsmith operation in Headrick. Bill enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing and his work as a gunsmith. But the most important part of life to Bill was his family and Bill treasured all the time he could with his family and especially his grandchildren and he will be missed very much.
