Obituary for William L. Lewis
Husband, Father, and Grandfather, William L. Lewis (Uncle Ceed) entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, January 21st, 2024.
On April 14, 1934, Will Lewis and Lola (Gaffney) Lewis rejoiced at the birth of their son Williame L. Lewis in Boswell, Oklahoma. At a young age, William was given the nickname by his father, Ceed. This name would be used by his family for the rest of his life. William was a gifted basketball player in high school and enjoyed the camaraderie with his teammates. He graduated from Dungon High School in 1954. Following high school, William married Elizabeth. The Lewis family moved to Dodson, Texas where this marriage would be blessed with nine children. While in Dodson, William worked as a farmer, growing wheat and cotton. In 1969, he started working at Bill's Truck Stop in Amarillo as a mechanic. In the mid seventies, he worked for the United States Postal Office as a mail carrier. On September 19, 1976 William married Erma Jean. Together they enjoyed traveling and attending church. The biggest part of William's life was his relationship with Jesus Christ. From an early age William was raised in the church. His mother schooled him in his early bible education. He spent his life in dedication of the Lord, and the study of his word. William praised Jesus with every breath and loved to spread the news, in that salvation can only be found in Jesus Christ. Each Sunday was spent in the church. He believed deeply in keeping the sabbath holy. Cooking, cleaning, hanging out, were not for Sunday. William was an ordained minister in the Church of God in Christ and served numerous churches as an elder. He and Erma Jean attended church together at Love Tabernacle in Tulsa. In his free time he enjoyed reading his bible, playing jokes on his kids, and spending time with his family and friends. Following the death of his beloved wife, William moved to Altus, Oklahoma to be with his daughter and started attending church at Great Love Ministries, where he provided wisdom and counseling. William leaves a legacy of love and devotion to his family, his church, and to his lord and savior Jesus Christ.
William was received at heaven's gate by his father, Will Lewis, his mother, Lola (Gaffney) Lewis, his son Landon Lewis, his first wife, Elizabeth Lewis, his second wife, Erma Jean; his brothers, George Lewis, Joel Lewis, Robert Lewis, Willie Lewis; Sisters, Ida, Ruth, Roxy and Elzana.
Left to honor his memory and legacy are his daughters, Linda Lewis, Theresa McKnight, Angel Lewis, Jackie Lindsey and husband Terry, Rita Lewis, Donna Lee and husband Sonda, two sons, Otis Lewis and Aubrey Lewis and wife Rolanda; stepdaughter, Emily; Sister, Jewel McClure; grandchildren, Telita Jackson and husband Adrian, Carlene Adamson, Namon Adamson, Comora Smith and husband Mike, Joshua Lewis, Katisha Peterson and husband Conner, Wesley McKnight, Tyrone McKnight, Meka Cathey, Aubreshia Lewis, Larry French and wife Mary, Eric French and wife Ima, Desaree Johnson, and husband Eugene, Chris Lewis and wife Maggie, Marcus Lewis, Nicholas Lewis, Ivory Lewis, Tasha Lewis and husband Ronald, Tyran Lewis, Otis Lewis, Jr. Jalan Williams, Porsche Lindsey, Marcus Lindsey, James Lewis, Sharika Lewis, Sharonda Lewis, LeRon Lee, Danielle Lee, Taylor Lee; and one hundred and twelve great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
