Obituary for William Thomas Tom Green
Tom was born June 1, 1917 at Duke, Oklahoma. He was the son of the late Dave & Buna (Vail) Green. He died May 6, 2001 in Altus, Oklahoma. He attended Stony Point School and graduated from La Homa High School in 1936. He married Mary Alice Bearden May 4, 1940 at McQueen, Oklahoma. Tom was a longtime farmer in Jackson & Greer County.

He was the owner and CEO of the Southwest Oklahoma Telephone Company of Duke. He was a founder & longtime President of the Duke Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental getting the Republic Gypsum Plant to locate in Duke. He served as Director on the board of both Republic Gypsum and the Hollis and Eastern Railroad for many years. Tom was an active supporter of community projects, Duke School, and a special supporter of children. He conducted the Children's Church for many years in the Duke First Baptist Church, where he also served as a Deacon and Building Committee Chairman. Tom loved spending time with his family and has left a legacy of love that will live on.

Survivors include his wife Mary Green of Duke; one son Donivan Green and Jane ; one daughter Joan Green Wycoff and George; three granddaughters, Becky Green Combs and Phillip; Michelle Green Shaw and Mike, Rana Wycoff Womack and Alan all of Duke; three greatgrandchildren Taylor Combs, RyLee Combs, and Sydney Shaw; one sister Nell Nicholson of Clinton , Oklahoma. Many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends in the community and within the telephone industry around Oklahoma.

Services for Tom green are scheduled for 2 pm Wednesday May 9, 2001 at Lowell-Tims Chapel. officiating will be Rev. Eugene Foreman and Rev. Keith Gillham . Interment will follow at the Rock cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

In honor of Tom Green, whose life continues to touch the lives of children, a memorial fund has been established at the Farmers and Merchant Bank of Duke to benefit the Duke School Playground.
