Obituary for Wilma Pearl King
Wilma Pearl (Savage) King, age 87, of Altus, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 19, 2008 with her family by her side.
Wilma was born on January 4, 1921 in Grand Saline, Texas. Her minister father brought the family to the warren community in 1926. She was the second daughter and the ninth of thirteen children of Walter and Nancy (Nix) Savage.
Wilma was the loving wife of Willie King for 65 years. When her husband was called to war, she single-handedly cared for their eldest son. Upon his return, they relocated to the Friendship community, which always remained their true home. The King home was the neighborhood-gathering place because of the shared love, affection and great food. Wilma was a tireless mother, grandmother and friend and will always hold a special place in the hearts of those lives she touched.
Wilma was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. At all church events her generous heart was always compelled to bring more than enough for everyone. Her greatest love was for her family. Wilma was a shining example of the glue that binds good families together and the light in all our homes shine brighter because of her. We will miss her tender love.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willie, parents, Walter and Nancy Savage, brothers Willie, Neely, Drew, Raymond, Chester, Woodrow, Forrest, Sidney and sister Thelma. She is survived by two sons, Maurice and wife Kathy of Altus and Ralph and wife Dolores of Fairview, Texas; two daughters, Marcia Brian and husband Richard of Altus and Glenda Bram and husband Rich also of Altus. Fourteen grandchildren, Melissa and David Hagen, Altus; Kara and Michael Falen, Edmond; Mollie King, Altus; Shannon King, Plano, Texas; Toby and Kim King, Oklahoma City; Whitney King, Dallas, Texas; Kim Brian, Hot Springs, Arkansas; Angie and Ted Lawson, Altus; Riccia and Erik Thomas, Pensacola, Florida; Rick Brian, Elk City; Steve and Angela Brian, Altus; Brent and Sarah Brian, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Jennifer Marble, Oklahoma City; Chad and Leslie Marble, Newcastle, Oklahoma; seventeen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
