Obituary for Xona Charlene Jolley
Xona Charlese (Woods) Jolley was born on a farm near Longdale, Oklahoma on December 18, 1938 to Albert Lowell Woods and Jewell Deloria (Bromlow) Woods. As a young girl, she lived and traveled with her family throughout Oklahoma while her father worked to build many of the facilities at Oklahoma State Parks. She was particularly fond of living at Quartz Mtn State Park, where she enjoyed climbing the mountain in her back yard and reading books up on the granite hillside. She attended high school at Granite Jr. High, where she developed a love of basketball and continued to play throughout high school. She graduated from Blair High School in the class of 1957.
Xona married William Arthur Jolley on December 19, 1956 at the First Baptist church in Quanah, Texas. As a military wife, she was blessed with many new experiences and great friendships. She and her family lived in Abilene, Texas; Peru, Indiana; Okinawa, Japan; Gwinn, Michigan and Alvin, Texas before settling in Altus, Oklahoma in 1975. She enjoyed league bowling, playing golf with her husband, traveling, visiting casinos, singing songs in the car, playing cards and games, and spending time with her family. She was highly creative and loved to cook, make jelly, the best cinnamon rolls and canning vegetables. She loved to crochet, sew, embroider, and paint ceramics. She made wedding cakes for the family brides, and loved holidays and family visitors to her home most of all.
Xona was a 38-year-member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and served as Worthy Matron of the Altus Chapter #49 in 1982 and 1991. She also served as Mother Advisor to the Altus Order of Rainbow Girls for many years, and as a secretary of the Bromlow Family Reunion. One of her greatest joys in life was her love of her family. She is survived by her siblings: Dick and Juanita Faye (Woods) Bowles of Madisonville, Texas; Rick and Jeanne (Woods) Castleberry of Alvin, Texas; and Karolyn Kay (Woods) Hinton of Alvin, Texas; also by her children, Starlette Jan (Jolley) Gill and William Lowell Jolley of Lubbock, Texas, Michael and Shannon Kay (Jolley) Weigel of Pearland, Texas and Gary Neal Rollins of Altus, Oklahoma; also by her grandchildren, Lowell and Sarach (Buchanan) Gill of Lubbock, Texas, Chris and Meredith (Gill) Getteau of Clear Lake, Texas, Elizabeth Rollins and Neal Rollins of Altus, Oklahoma and Joey Weigel of Pearland, Texas; also by her great-grandchildren: Alia Gill, Lorein Gill, Kadin Gill, and Revan Gill of Lubbock, Texas and Kaitlin Getteau of Clear Lake, Texas; Robert Teague, Ethan Rollins, Brandon Scrimmage and Sean Scrimmage of Altus, OK; also by her nieces, and nephews Rick and Nancy Bowles of Dallas, Texas; Lionel Ronda (Bowels) Rotelli of Conroe, Texas; Ruth Bowles and Alex Neglein of Chicago, IL, Regina (Castleberry) Cochran and Kyle Schober of Fairview, Oklahoma; and Patricia Woods of Houston, Texas, and beloved cousins too numerous to name. Xona is preceded in heaven by her parents; her husband; a younger brother, Doyle Ray Woods; her daughter, Kim Elizabeth (Jolley) Rollins; and a great-grandson, Corbin Gavin Rollins.
Services for Xona Charlene Jolley will be on Monday, November 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Lowell-Tims Chapel. Bobby Laws will officiate. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
