G.B. Wiley, age 83, a lifelong resident of Harmon County Oklahoma, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.
G.B. was born in Harmon County on February 27, 1934 to his parents Bodle Wiley and Mary (Vaughan) Wiley. He grew up in the Ron Community and graduated from Ron Schools in 1953. He served his country for three years in the United Sates Army with duty stations in Germany and received an honorable discharge. When G.B. returned home from the Army he went on a blind date with Donna Patrick and six months later they were married on September 29, 1956 at the Louis Baptist Church and they have enjoyed almost 61 years of marriage together. They settled in Hollis and have lived there ever since where G.B. worked for the Hollis Cotton Oil Mill and Dixon Kirchoff. He later worked for the United States Post Office and was a letter carrier and a postal clerk. G.B. was an auctioneer where he auctioned at many different sales including, cattle, horse sales, household items, and farm sales for over twenty-eight years. He served the community of Hollis on the Town Council and was Mayor of Hollis for four years. He was a member of the Metcalf Baptist Church and the Hollis Riding Club and would always help with the 4-H by auctioneering for their premium sale for many years. G.B. truly enjoyed working his ranch and raising horses, cattle, and other livestock and he always enjoyed being an auctioneer.
Preceded in death by his parents; his brother Wesley Wiley; two sisters, Rosie Sanford; and Louise Scott; G.B. is survived by his wife Donna Wiley of the home; his daughter, Sharon Brown and husband Hobey of Amarillo; his sister Frances Heflin and husband Orville of Altus; two grandchildren, Corey Brown and wife Whitney of Elgin; and Jacob Brown of Amarillo; two great grandchildren - twins, Carley and Kyndal Brown of Elgin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the Hollis First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home in Hollis.
